Mallory rated it really liked it Dec 12, Scott Stevens rated it it was amazing Sep 29, Lists with This Book. Very God for anyone interested in truth commissions in general or one of the commissions specifically. The panoramic view of existing and past commissions is balanced by attention to stories and details; the writing is lively and fresh.

Karina rated it it was ok Oct 24, She is currently writing on the subject of justice in peace negotiations. I liked her comparative framework, as too often truth commission studies focus on the “successful” examples, and Hayner also provided examples of what can go wrong and what it looks like when conflicts end without truth telling. Ten years later, she offers a dramatically updated new edition, a refined, measured and yet often stirring account of state efforts to address the past, with rich new case evidence collected through her travels and policy consultation in over a dozen countries.
