Those issues were handled with careful grace, and just added layers upon layers of life’s mysteries and secrets in-between the lines. How It Ends not only sucks Hanna into it but, you as the reader too. I agree Seth was such a jerk.

How It Ends by Laura Wiess. Although Hanna spends less time with Granna Helen as she gets older, their friendship means as much to them as it did when they had spent every afternoon together. How it Ends A novel by Laura Wiess.
My sleep was besieged with anguish and I kept fighting with the covers. For him to notice her she didn’t exactly act in the most dignifying of ways.
Some of the story got a little boring for me–the parts that talked about taxidermy and women’s reproductive rights just didn’t do it for me. Gradually the characters, especially Helen and Hannah, become a part of us and beings that are so real they may as well step off the page. I got pages and once the audiobook started I couldn’t do it anymore.
They are basically her grandparents.
Hannah was clearly in a toxic relationship with Seth and instead of seeing him for the douche he was, she romanticised the idea of being in a relationship with a gorgeous broken guy.
The first chapter, told from Helen’s viewpoint as she remembers watching Hanna grow up and how their lives drifted apart, made me tear up. Until the day when the story becomes all too real By then, it was too little too late.

This is such a sad story told from dueling points of view of Hanna who is just seeing her life as a Sophmore in HS begin, to her neighbor Helen who is slowly watching her body fail her and is powerless to stop it.

That’s what Hanna reminded me and not in a ditsy – OMG – kind of way. Schoenmaker has advanced Parkinson’s, and her husband can’t always be there to watch over her. Her heart is set on getting the attention of Seth, a cool, guitar playing junior.
My problem with Hanna was that she realized she was making bad decisions but did it anyways.
