I get the impression that Victoria Holt likes moorlands, or at least romanticizes the moors, peaty-smelling bogs, and wide open grassy places with large boulders just a bit. The twists and turns toward the end were delightful. Some reviewers sa Like many others readers, I also read kirmland book at a much, much younger age.
But what would these books be without a Wonderful storytelling! Good literary comfort snack food. I haven’t read kirklajd since I was a tween, and I had forgotten how good it actually is. Catherine meets Gabriel while they are rescuing mirkland dog, and their friendship turns into a whirlwind romance. She receives help from an unexpected source, and both her and her child kidkland saved. This one I bought at a used book sale at my local library. And leaking clues via an elderly woman with dementia making stories in tapestries was downright brilliant.
This was overdone, in my opinion. Be the first to discover new talent! As her only escape she went out for horseback rides on the moors. I never tire of reading her work even though the plot is generally very similar.

Back then Victoria Holt was one of my favourite authors. Therefore, the setting, the well-crafted plot, and the believable characters all add up to a very good read. It was a lot like Mary Stewart’s books which I’ve read mostly all so I was hoping to find another author similar to her.
Of the one ‘bad’ decision she made, I wouldn’t call it stupidness, only really bad timing, as it brought her into peril. The mansion was built in the s from s stone taken from an abbey and the ruins of the abbey near the grounds add further mystery to the setting. I really enjoyed it.
